Hot Danish’s New Year’s resolution is to work less and have more fun. I, on the other hand, need to work more and spend less (particularly HD’s money).
HD is a fan of to-do lists, so here is my top 10 fun and cheap things to do in 2013:
- Make cocktails at home.
A quick search online gave me 48 recipes. Combine with dinner/simple canapés – as cookbook author Ted Allen says, ‘It’s okay if you finish cooking something easy after your guests arrive – some dishes must be prepared a la minute, as chefs say. Just remember to keep talking.’ - Organise a swishing (aka clothes swapping) party.
Eco-fabulous, dahling. - Check out your local flea market such as Shepherd’s Bush Market on Goldhawk Road from Monday to Saturday and Church Street, near Edgware Road on Saturdays.
- Upcycle some old furniture.
Reupholster a chair, make a rug out of rags or shelves out of pallets. - Sell your upcycled furniture.
- Organise or join a book club.
Admittedly this could be a good excuse to read 50 Shades and get tipsy with the girls. - Lunch out instead of dine out.
Many top restaurants offer brilliant lunch deals. One of my faves is Pollen Street Social. - Play board or mind games (ask your friend/date to write down their earliest, saddest and happiest memories; then play psychologist).
- Have more sex.
- Read Top 10 lists.
Okay, I’m running out of ideas…
But as one friend posted on Facebook, ‘Here’s to more prosperity, less austerity in 2013’.
