Manicure at Amara Spa

Manicure at Amara Spa

The Blurb:

The Amara Spa in Fulham was set up in 2003 by Jacqueline Kearney. She had been so unimpressed by her local beauty salons that she decided to create her own where she could offer great products, a relaxing atmosphere and fantastic customer service.

The Process:

I was interested to see if anything could be done to improve my nails which were suffering from the cold weather and hadn’t been longer than a few millimetres since 2008. Apparently all netball players are so bitchy that long nails would get used to attack the opposition! They were obviously in desperate need of a decent buff and emergency cuticle repair, so when I was asked what I would like to achieve from my manicure I thought it was pretty obvious – nicer looking nails? I was further stumped by being asked when I would like to achieve this by! Well, I was hoping straight away…is there any other answer? Eventually – after 20 questions – my nails were treated to the Standard Manicure; they were soaked, filed, buffed, clipped and painted.

The Result:

Although my nails did look better than when I had arrived, I was not blown away by the result. I felt that nothing had quite been done thoroughly enough; there was still dry skin around my nails and the buffing had been perfunctory. The Jessica products that were used were very nice and it made a pleasant change to be able to look out of the window as my hands were being worked on rather than a blank wall, but I just didn’t feel that the result warranted the 45 minutes that it took to achieve it.

A 45-minute manicure costs £33.
