Ayanna occupies the space previously home to an Ark skincare salon and it’s clear the founder of the new spa, Nalini Williams, has put a lot of thought into the small space (she formerly worked in the city). The interiors are luxurious and girly; there’s the type of intimate relaxing area you’d find in a luxury hotel, a mani/pedi room, a waxing room (which is only used for waxing so the scent of waxing products won’t affect those having other treatments) and several treatment rooms (there are sliding doors between two so couples/friends/mothers and daughters can have a natter if they wish).
My hydrafacial treatment is the latest development in non-laser skin resurfacing. It is the only procedure that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection. It promises to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation and brown spots.
The Process:
My therapist Leena guided the machine-based treatment through each stage from cleansing to moisturising. The machine made a gurgling sound and didn’t give me any discomfort. The products used throughout felt rich and nourishing and were gentle enough for my sensitive skin.
I was particularly impressed by the extraction stage (I had to keep my eyes closed while Leena examined my skin under a harsh light) – different tips are used on the machine depending on what the skin needs and it’s a gentler method than usually used during facials.
Leena completed the treatment by massaging a moisturiser into my skin and then an SPF. She advised on using an SPF for the next few days and to avoid extreme heat (probably good advice for general skincare).
The Result:
My skin was a little pink initially after the treatment (it calmed down within an hour), but looked clearer and brighter over the next few days. It also felt smoother.
