Neat, Soho

Neat Burger, the trailblazing plant-based fast-food concept, is thrilled to announce its brand evolution into ‘Neat’. Evolving from the occasional to something for the every day, Neat is expanding into a new era of eating with brighter, healthier and fresher ingredients, reimagined into an innovative new menu that shows how delicious meat-free eating can be. Expect exciting recipe changes to the best-selling burgers and sides that have earned the brand its loyal following to date, as well as superfood salads, organic artisan ciabattas and light bites.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of Old Compton Street is Soho’s branch of ‘Neat’. The plant-based diner offers a range of ‘fast food’ inspired healthy alternatives, including traditional American fare with meat alternative patties, Middle Eastern-inspired mezze and falafel, salads, ciabattas and sides.

We visit early on a Thursday lunchtime, it’s quiet when we arrive, but by the time we leave, the place is buzzing with trendy Soho ‘meedyah’ types.

Style

The small restaurant is liberally splashed in ‘millennial pink’ which pops against emerald tiles and luscious plants. The space feels every bit as modern as its mould-breaking menu.

The Food

The charming Harun talks us through the menu and nudges us in the direction of some of his personal faves. My guest, a bonafide veggie of twenty years, orders The Neat Burger which she daintily eats with a knife and fork (what a lady!). She’s thrilled with the flavours and the fact that there are not one, but two tasty patties nestled inside the doughy bun.

I order a Chick’n salad – Chick’n (minus the ‘e’, capital ‘c’) is a soya-based meat substitute, that certainly has this carnivore fooled.

We also share some Hummus with crispy pitta chips and some Crispy Cauliflower Wings, but the real showstopper here is the Chick’n Nuggets that come served alongside an addictive Green Goddess Dressing. Not only are they remarkably close to chicken (with an ‘e’, no capital ‘c’) but they taste like a high-quality version of the real thing.

To Drink

It’s a midweek lunch so we opt for the House Lemonade. Its wonderfully refreshing without being too sweet and reminds us of a traditional British picnic.

In a Nutshell

Neat is a healthy, sustainable, affordable lunch option for vegans, veggies and meat-eaters alike. We order a lot of food and even though we polish it off – we don’t feel sluggish or heavy afterwards. In fact, we flit down the street without a care in the world, safe in the knowledge that we’ll be flitting back soon to get our hands on some more of those heavenly Chick’n Nuggets.
