The west London-based designer has just finished renovating the home of arguably Britain’s most famous billionaire, Richard Branson.

As expected, this was no two-up, two-down conversion but a complete refurbishment of a magnificent ski lodge in Switzerland. Understandably, the project is one of Kate’s all-time favourites, yet she does not cast much favoritism, ‘I love every project I work on – I truly love what I do. It never feels like work at all.’

Before designing the homes of the super-rich, Kate began her career in fashion trend prediction and naturally progressed into the realm of interior design. This passion for design resulted in her launching her own company, Kate Watson Interiors, six years ago.

Kate has renovated many homes in west London and says despite the fact that these are tough economic times homeowners still want beautiful homes. ‘Despite the recession we still want to feel nurtured and enveloped in a little escapism and magic in our homes’ she says. ‘In fact the recession seems to be creating a longing for timeless luxury more than ever, even if it is on a smaller budget.’

Why buy now?

If your New Year’s resolution is to change how you live, then your home is a good place to start. Obviously Kate’s portfolio of work speaks for itself, but if you also require a bespoke service Kate’s style is also very hands-on. ‘I am personally involved from start to finish with every project large or small, and don’t rely on formulaic approaches to design,’ she says. ‘I think we therefore offer a very personal approach with exceptional attention to every detail, for every customer we work for.’

Kate’s redesign of Branson’s ski lodge reflects her dedication to her designs and the customer’s individuality, as although many miles from the UK, Kate used as many British-made fabrics and products as possible to ensure the Virgin boss felt right at home.
