The top 5 things to do during a Corsica yacht charter

One of the most mountainous and characteristic islands of the Mediterranean, the island of Corsica offers a unique blend of cultures, nature and beauty. Although it’s offering of charming coastal towns, dense forests and impossibly tall peaks may reflect an authentic French look and feel, the island still retains its very distinct Italian flair. The island’s spectacular scenic diversity is matched by its fascinating history that can be seen across the island. With a coastline dotted by picturesque beaches, rocky covers and turquoise waters, a Corsica yacht charter is the best way to explore the island. Here we share our list of the top five things to do during a Corsica yacht charter.

Explore the coastline via charter yacht

Easily the best way to appreciate the island’s surreal beauty, explore the winding coastline of Corsica via charter yacht. Cruise along the north-west from Calvi and take in the sight of the famous Citadel from the sea. Continue onwards through the Golfe de Girolata through to the Gulf of Sagone with its magnificent sandy beaches. Admire the Ajaccio region, the birthplace of Napoleon or cruise by the Gulf of Valinco region, said to be one of the nicest regions in Corsica that offer the perfect combination of outstanding, fine sandy beaches and coves with unspoilt nature – the choice is yours.

See Bonifacio up close

Stop by the port of Bonifacio, a well-preserved fortified town that dates back to the 9th century, to see the beauty of this Old Town up close and in person. Known as the city of the cliffs, the old town was built out on eroded limestone. The original buildings from the Old Town are precariously nestled onto the rock shelves that overlook the charming cafe-filled harbour below. Explore some of the historical sites, such as the Saint-Dominique church dating back to the 12th-13th centuries with an impressive 15th-century tower and the Pertusatu lighthouse.

Swim by Santa Giulia

Located by Porto Vecchio, at the tip of the most southern part of the island, the Santa Giulia beach is considered the best beach in Corsica and arguably the world. Officially recognised and listed by UNESCO, this beach is known for its pristine fine, white sands, clear turquoise waters and picturesque rocks. A must-see for every visitor, enjoy swimming in shallow waters or by the small pools further away from the main beach.

Snorkel by the Lavezzi Islands

Cruise to the Lavezzi Islands, a small group of granite islands and reefs located in southern Corsica. Part of the area’s Protected Nature reserve, these islands are the ideal place to relax, unwind and swim in seclusion. Take the tender out and enjoy a day of swimming and snorkelling by the reefs and rocks, which are home to an array of fish. Afterwards, you can select a hidden beach where your chef can prepare a gourmet beach barbecue or picnic while you enjoy the beautiful view.

Hike along the coastal paths

For nature lovers, Corsica is home to countless walking and hiking trails. With mountains comprising two-thirds of the island and forests covering 20 per cent of it, you can choose what type of walk, hike or trek you’d like to embark on. If you’re looking for a challenge, why not trek Grand Randonnée 20 (GR20), one of Europe’s top long-distance trails? Crossing the entire island, it is rather difficult in terms of distance and terrain. However, there are plenty of coastal paths with stunning sea views for those looking for less of a challenging hike.
