West London Girl

WLG on meltdown Mondays

‘He said he is madly in love with me... Does it count if he was inside me at the time?’

Natasha and I were both having a meltdown Monday. Mine usually start from when I check my bank account at 9am. Natasha was feeling trapped in her new job. She tried calling from her car (the only place with privacy) during her lunch break but I was in a meeting at Daylesford Organic. She returned to her desk and the girl providing the handover seemed strangely perceptive, ‘I really hope you’ll stay. There’s so much involved and you’re doing such a great job. It would be difficult to replace you if you left.’

I was also feeling anxious about Hot Danish. I texted the ex, saying I was having a freak-out and was worried my own insecurity would ruin a relationship with the decent guy I’d met. ‘Everything will be fine with the dude,’ he replied. ‘Just enjoy yourself and don’t over-think it.’
‘Ahhh, that’s really sweet of you, thanks.’
‘Do you think I’m being cocky?’
‘No. Are you over-thinking?’
‘Perhaps.’

When Hot Danish called me that evening he admitted he was worried about having to move abroad for work and how that would affect our relationship. Immediately after our conversation, a text came through from The Lonsdale’s GM, ‘Have you slept with Hot Danish yet? Don’t let him go…’ I gave him a brief update.
‘Offer to move abroad with him and you’ll be able to tell from his reaction whether he has lost interest or is genuinely concerned.’

A couple of days later GM asked for the latest news. ‘He said he is madly in love with me… Does it count if he was inside me at the time?’
‘No, it doesn’t count – he was deeply in you.’

I guess sometimes it’s hard to gauge what is your intuition and what is your past experience when you’re having a melt-down Monday, but it certainly helps when someone you’ve just met at work picks up on how you feel or a not-so-close-friend texts you at just the right moment even when they say something you don’t really want to hear.
