‘Ha, another showy, younger man’

‘You spent one evening with a guy and he’s coming to stay with you for six weeks?’ Luisa asked.
‘No, he’s coming to visit in six weeks’ time,’ I repeated loudly above the din of pub chatter.
‘What if you realise you don’t fancy him as soon as you meet him at the airport?,’ Jess asked. ‘Often I think a guy’s hot when I first meet him and by the third date I think quite the opposite.’
‘I once met a guy in Italy, who visited me for a week and I went back to work on Monday and never saw him after he left. It was a very long, awkward week,’ Luisa added.

Plan B was equally enthused about the guy I’d met during a work trip and who’d booked his flight to visit me for a weekend. ‘Ha, another showy, younger man,’ he said when I mentioned the date’s suggestion of a holiday in Sardinia. ‘Do you want to see a photo of him?’ I replied.
‘Desperately.’
‘Cute, hey.’
‘Yes, and smooth looking. Just your type!’

‘What is it with you and younger guys?’ Trustafarian said. ‘You’re turning into your mum. I went on a date with a younger girl and we had absolutely nothing in common.’
‘That’s because you have the mindset of an old man,’ I retorted.

‘He still hasn’t booked the Sardinia trip,’ I said to Plan B, a few days later.
‘Why is he already talking about trips away? He should be courting you in Amsterdam.’
‘Well, he has booked his flight here.’
‘Good. Look at your history with flash guys – not meaning to depress you, but flashiness is usually a warning sign in my book.’
