‘Welcome back to Little Britain,’ my mum said. It certainly seems that I have returned to a diminished country. It was awful to read that reports of hate crime rose by 57% on a police website in the days after the referendum vote. But when friends starting reporting personal experiences of racial abuse, I was really shocked. Who wants to be British if it means being an ignorant, narrow-minded racist?
So, this week I thought I’d share my top five favourite posts that friends have shared on social media that throw wit and humour in the face of hatred and stupidity…
- A poem on immigration based on Hollie McNish’s personal experience and studies. The poem owes a lot to a book by economist Philippe Legrain called Immigrants: Your Country Needs Them.

- luki.sumner is wondering what Farage deems to be a ‘proper job’.
- An Englishman, Irishman and a Scotsman…
- We share more with the world than we think…
