Getting to know you

‘Did you get your dates or your women mixed up?’

What if he’s stingy or lazy?’ I asked my mum.
‘He could be both,’ she replied. I was referring to Christian, whom I’d met at a London Fashion Week after-party. I’d booked my flight to visit him in Stockholm and then he invited me to another of his homes in Italy so he could see me sooner, before back tracking, citing the flight price.

‘Do you think €400 is a lot for a flight to Milan,’ I asked Trustafarian.
‘Business? Even that’s high,’ he replied. But when I filled in the gaps, he said, ‘F**k him. If he says one thing and does another, forget it. He is taking the p**s or doesn’t want to see you, I’m afraid. Anyway, you don’t need to knock around with tight arses: they are annoying.’ After following up the aforementioned weekend with Christian a few days later, he said he hadn’t realised that he wouldn’t be returning from his work travels until the Saturday.

‘I’m just back from South Africa… Exhausted. How are you?,’ Christian texted on the Friday evening.
‘Did you get your dates or your women mixed up?’ I replied. He’d cut his work trip short so he could spend the weekend with his kids, he explained. ‘WLG, I’m not seeing anyone. If I was seeing someone then I wouldn’t have suggested you come over. That’s not how I am. What about you – have you been on any “dates”?’
‘I’m a romantic and I only like one guy at a time so definitely not.’
‘Romantic? Wow… Nice surprise.’

‘You’re going to have to take his word for it and you’ll know when you’re in Stockholm,’ Monique said during a Skype call. ‘Remember when I asked Roel if he was seeing someone and he said he’d sort it out by the time he next saw me… I never saw him again.’

The other thing that was bugging me was the text-only conversation. ‘Can you FaceTime or Skype me one evening – I want to hear your voice,’ I messaged Christian.
‘Morning, sure we can… Busy week at the office after the SA trip but will find some time. How are you?,’ he messaged the next day. There was a quick update in the evening: he was still at the office before a work dinner. And I suddenly felt better. He’s a driven alpha male: just my type.
