Heidi Klein on her eponymous beachwear label, her Westbourne Grove and Sloane Square stores, and designing for all shapes and styles

Where do you get your inspiration?

Travelling to exotic locations, keeping up-to-date with the latest fashion, fabrics and prints, are things which keep me inspired to create new and fresh styles.

What’s it like working for yourself?

heidi klein is a great environment to work in. I get to work with my business partner Penny who is also my best friend, so I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Describe your typical day…

Breakfast with my children, then to the office to go over prints, materials and shapes for the new collection. I’ll make visits to the stores to see how customers have responded to the collection and then it’s back to the office to organise trips to factories and planning for future campaign shoots.

Who are your customers?

The Heidi Klein woman is aged between 25–65 years, affluent, confident and stylish. She knows what she wants and appreciates quality over veneer.

Who are your fave designers?

Love Tory Burch and Anya Hindmarch – they have a great way of reinventing classic styles.

Where’s your favourite holiday destination?

For our latest campaign we travelled to Jumby Bay, Antigua and it was absolutely beautiful and peaceful.

What are your holiday essentials?

I always take a large beach bag, a wide brim hat, a gorgeous bikini and some roucou oil for tanning.

What are your tips for beach confidence?

Always look for shapes and styles for your body shape. Our staff are all highly trained on body shapes, fitting and styling to ensure that our customers always try on what will suit their shape best. It is really important to make the best of what you have so that you feel confident when not wearing a lot.

How would you describe your day-to-day style?

I like to keep it quite simple with smart jeans, white shirt and a blazer.

What does the future have in store for heidi klein?

We want to keep on designing great beachwear for all shapes and styles.

Theatre makers Nadia Cavelle & Zachary Fall talk parenthood, creativity & why they co-founded the Woven Voices Prize

Firstly, tell us your favourite thing about west London…

We love the hustle and bustle of Soho, where we’ve seen many shows and attended many auditions! We also have very fond memories of Chiswick, home of the Tabard Theatre, where we produced our first play, Bruises, in the summer of 2015.

Carolyn Arnold, Clarendon Cross Residents’ Association, on TFL’s proposed new cycleway across Holland Park

Why are you against TfL’s proposed new cycleway across Holland Park roundabout?

While we support all efforts to make cycling safer in London, we are against the proposals because they involve removing road space and adding traffic lights on one of the busiest intersections in Central London, connecting… Read more →
