Owner of Jaeger and Aquascutum Harold Tillman reveals his style heroes

What are you up to at the moment?

Trying to manage my diary between overseas travel, social events and business.

How would you describe your personal style?

Respectful to whatever I am doing, wherever I am, be it a business meeting, social event or holiday.  I am fastidious and prefer to wear quality not quantity.

Who are your style heroes?

From a male perspective, Ralph Lauren.  For womenswear, both Christian Dior and YSL are two out of a category of many that I idealize.

You turned around Jaeger. What do you put your success down to?

The turn-around of Jaeger is not just a personal direction. Throughout my life, I have admired the quality that Jaeger portrays and, as my background is tailoring and Savile Row, this became my main focus. However, the person who has really moved the business to where it is today, is our CEO, Belinda Earl.

What’s your view on the popularity of fashion designers collaborating with chain stores?

This is an essential ingredient to spreading and broadening the opportunity for the consumer to own something from the catwalk.

What’s your earliest London memory?

Fog.

What’s been your most memorable west London meal?

When you reach my age it’s not possible to recall genuinely the many pleasurable meals one has enjoyed.

What are your guilty pleasures?

Fine wine and being a petrol head.

What makes you laugh?

Being with friends who I can go back to our teenage years with.

Which west London shops do you rely on?

Ralph Lauren and Harrods, plus Aquascutum and Jaeger of course.

What’s by your bedside?

A clock and normally a glass of water.

How would you spend an ideal Sunday?

With my family and my new grandson.

What’s your philosophy on life?

I have always believed that every day is for living and don’t worry about what may happen tomorrow.

Where do you live and why?

Having grown up between Islington and Scotland, I’ve lived in Parson’s Green most of my adult life. I love village atmosphere, the mix of ‘country’ pubs, young families, and its proximity to the King’s Road.

How did you get into cooking, is
