The K West Spa, Shepherd’s Bush

The Blurb

Situated in the heart of Shepherd’s Bush, a mere stroll from the entrance to Westfield Shopping Centre (and yet so serene that you’d have no idea the busy hub was around the corner), is the K West Hotel. The spot is right in the middle of several famous music venues, making it the go-to hotel for travelling musicians.

You can, of course, stay overnight in the hotel as part of your package. Looking around, I can just imagine band members congregating in their studio suites before a big gig. In the morning, they’d breakfast in the restaurant surrounded by roadies and keyboard players, PR execs and singers. The menu contains freshly made green juices, avocado on sourdough and a selection of meats, mueslis and veg for the health-conscious diner. They also have a hearty cooked breakfast and an Elderflower Prosecco cocktail, which I’d imagine would take the edge off a late night spent in the bar downstairs.

The Experience

In spite of the opportunity to groupie over my morning granola, I had never visited the hotel before hearing about the K West Spa. Spread across the hotel’s extensive lower floors, the spa makes for an ideal retreat for any city-dweller in need of a refresh.

The space offers one-hour packages for non-hotel guests, where they can choose from a selection of rooms and additional treatments, including the most impressive Snow Paradise (pictured), which makes you feel like you’re on the side of a glacier, a salt Foot Bath, Sauna, Steam Room, Solarium and Hydrotherapy Pool.

There is an extensive range of treatments on offer, with options for treatments to suit everyone, from Hot Stone massages to Cryo-Oxygen facials. There is also a beautiful waiting room with passion fruit and black tea available by the teapot load.

My guest and I tried out the Sun Meadow experience. Guests lie down in a private beach-themed room (complete with loungers) where they are treated with LED light, which stimulates the skin’s natural regeneration processes. We were left to lie in the warmth for 20 minutes as the light did its work. This was perfect for a dreary autumn day and an ideal treatment for the long winter months.

We then opted for a 30-minute back massage to top off the day. The massage treatment rooms were cosy and warm with a gorgeous modern design. I asked for firm pressure as I’d been experiencing a lot of knots in my upper back, and then we got to work. My masseuse found some well-hidden tension spots and worked her way through them effortlessly, without causing much discomfort. She used the information I’d given her and targetted my needs by using stretches as well as a range of massage techniques – not just going through the motions. For a half-hour treatment, it was very effective.

I’m so glad I’ve found this spot! It’s certainly a find for anyone in the area who fancies a spa day, perhaps after some hardcore shopping or before going out to a gig. I will certainly be back to use the Sun Meadow room some time mid-January.
