'I can't wait to see where I will be in another six weeks'

Surge

The blurb

Exercising is my least favourite thing to do by far. I lack motivation and accountability and in the end, the £40 that comes out my bank each month is completely wasted money. Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a new technology to come to England; with over 600 in Germany we seem to be behind the times with this one. EMS is less scary than it sounds, it simply uses electrical impulses to activate muscles that you might not typically engage (or in my case, know were there).

The process

When I heard that a full-body work out session was now 20 minutes and goals could be achieved quicker than usual, I knew it was for me. I turned up at the brand new studio in Hammersmith to find a simple open layout and plenty of friendly faces. I was pre-warned that I would need to bring no gym gear, trainers or water as everything would be provided for me on arrival, which for me is one massive selling point—who really wants to be lugging a big gym bag around London with them?

I met Constantin, the charming owner of Surge, who was also training me for my first session. He showed me around the studio before handing me my kit and showing me to the changing rooms. The clothes that are provided are made with materials that aid connectivity, not the most glam outfit but also not the worst.

I was then then shown over to a stand with a screen on. I was talked through the process and the exercises—Constantin always making sure I was comfortable. Although the exercises were easy, I was still sweaty and slightly wobbly on my feet by the end of the 20 minutes, so I knew it had been worthwhile.

The remainder of my sessions were with Tariq, who tailored each session to my body and goals. I asked for a bigger bum and abs (apparently not the only female to ask for that), so we focused on those body parts, changing exercises that I disliked to ones I preferred and increasing levels each time I went.

The results

I was feeling and seeing a difference after two sessions, which I did not think was possible in such a short space of time. I have recommended Surge to everyone and even brought my mum along to have a go with me.

Six weeks on, I am feeling great and have signed up for my own membership! I can’t wait to see where I will be in another six weeks.
