Browhaus is a Singaporean brow and lash chain which since opening in 2014 has successfully spread across the world to cities including Beijing, Jakarta, New York and London.
After discovering the power of a strong brow some years ago, I was keen to pay a visit to one of the three Browhaus outlets in London and see for myself whether they could offer me anything more than my usual high street options do.
The London outlets are amazingly central, covering Covent Garden, Holburn and Chelsea, with each decorated slightly differently to the others. I visited the Holborn store, which is decked out with Wes Anderson-style interiors inspired by the Grand Budapest Hotel, featuring pastel pink walls and marble floors.
The process
Now I’m not usually one to jump at the chance of having my eyebrows threaded, but with a wedding only days away something had to be done. I’m fairly confident my pain threshold is no lower than anyone else’s—in fact I once went a couple of hours with my kneecap not in its usual kneecap place. Little compares however to the sharp, eye-watering pain of threading and I can’t help but silently weep every time I deem it a necessary to put myself through it.
As such, it was with some trepidation that I arrived at Browhaus.
Upon meeting my friendly therapist, Luchie, and deciding on a plan of attack for colouring and shaping my unkempt brows, however, I soon felt at ease.
The process itself, whilst not entirely painless, was certainly the best I’ve ever experienced. In fact there were some moments which felt on the edge of therapeutic. A definite first for me and my relationship with threading!
The results
I’ve always wanted more of an arch in my brows, but have never dared ask, convinced I have too little to work with. To my delight, Luchie disagreed and managed to carve out the perfect shape, which I’m convinced has taken years off my face.
While I like my brows to be tinted dark brown, I prefer the rest of my face to remain its natural pinky hue, but I always emerge from my high street appointments with dye stains reaching far beyond where they ought. Happily, this was not the case at Browhaus, as Luchie had neatly managed to colour within the lines.
Overall, though Browhaus is more expensive than my usual eyebrow haunts, the procedure and results certainly put it in another league. I was—and some days later still am—thrilled with the results.
