K West Hotel Spa’s latest signature treatment is Muscle Ease Elixir, which takes elements from a traditional royal Thai massage and K West’s signature massage to manipulate the limbs and back to alleviate stiffness. Having been promised by the spa manager that fans of this treatment travel for miles (I assume she meant further than Ealing) I booked the Muscle Ease Elixir as a birthday treat for my friend, while I bravely made myself a reservation for a much-needed hour of Muscle Distress Deep Tissue Massage.
The Process:
Each wrapped up in robes and helping ourselves to complimentary refreshments, we were each introduced to our masseurs. My friend was whisked away by a pretty, petite Eastern European lady, while a six foot seven inches tall, strong-looking dark-eyed man greeted me. The gentle giant delivered one of the best massages I’ve had. Starting with my feet and finishing with a light scalp massage, he kneaded away at the knots in my legs, back, arms, shoulders and neck with as much pressure as I asked for.
After an all too short hour I rejoined my friend who described the Muscle Ease Elixir as a part-massage-part-yoga-type experience with the aid of a long piece of silk which was used by the masseur as resistance and leverage when stretching parts of the body and that the head massage that completed the treatment recentred and relaxed her after quite a physical but enjoyable experience.
We also enjoyed the sauna, sanarium, steam room, hydrotherapy pool and another K Spa special feature, the Snow Parade (a room set at -15C lined with fake snow that you are encouraged to rub all over your swimsuit-clad body for two to three minutes; we managed 20 seconds).
The Result:
K Spa treatments come with a predictably high price tag, but the way we felt immediately after our treatments (utterly spoilt rotten) was worth it.
