The Blurb:
John Carne’s hairdressers can often be spotted backstage at top fashion shows such as Vivienne Westwood and are known for their cutting edge hairstyling. A blink away from Harrods, I had to barge my way through the crowds of tourists to arrive at a sleek monochrome salon oozing chic attitude with the help of a screen playing this season’s catwalks on Fashion TV.
The Process:
I was offered Champagne and as it was a Sunday and roughly afternoon(ish) I could hardly turn it down. I quickly noted that the salon uses Schwarzkopf products, which I have used for many years.
My therapist Ellie pulled up a stool and we had an informal chat about my hair, what I wanted from the cut and what colour. I have recently had my below-shoulder-blade-length hair chopped to a long bob but it had lost its shape and style.
We agreed on adding in highlights and lowlights to cover up the roots which will also give it a gradual grow out rather than an unintentional two-tone hair colour. We also decided to go for a graduated style, starting very short at the back and ending at jaw length at the front.
Ellie layered very fine highlights into my hair and I was relieved to find that the dye didn’t smell of bleach. The highlights were left in for about half an hour and then I was escorted down to the treatment room – which had soft multicoloured lighting and leather massage chairs – for my Holiday Hair Rehab treatment. My hair was bathed in SEAH Hairspa’s Black Pearl line which is enriched with minerals that detoxifies your hair, leaving it glossy. I enjoyed a head-tingling massage before moisture was then locked in with a rather chilly sparkling water rinse which closes hair follicles, adding to the overall shine.
It was time for my trim, which was executed swiftly and professionally. I was then styled with heated Velcro rollers to add volume and shape and a final slick of hairspray to hold the look for my evening out.
The Result:
My hair shone and looked a lot healthier; my cut was edgy but not so much I would get odd looks at work; the colour was so impressively subtle that I let my boyfriend off for not noticing I’d had it dyed.
