Relaxing Back Massage at Liz Earle

The Blurb:

Despite what the name might imply, Liz Earle the brand is actually the brainchild of not only Mrs Earle but her friend Kim Buckland as well, the manufacturing and packaging specialist. Unsurprising then that the natural health and wellbeing specialist Liz got to be the brand. They wanted to create a range that used natural ingredients but still really worked, was pampering yet affordable and simple to use. Quite an ask, but they definitely managed it and after 14 years they provide one of Britain’s best-loved and respected beauty care ranges.

The Process:

Although famous for their amazing facials, I was interested in trying something a little different and seeing if Liz Earle’s other treatments were just as good. The Relaxing Back Massage sounded like the perfect antidote to a week spent on my feet. After a preparatory consultation with the masseuse, Alex, my lower back and shoulders were pinpointed as areas that needed some special attention and she got to work after five minutes of body relaxation. Using simply a mixture of apricot kernel and borage oils, she worked her magic with a series of massage sequences designed to soothe, restore and bring inner balance.

The Result:

I have only ever had two previous back massages in my life. One was from my cousin who was training to be a masseuse – it left me with a headache and smelling of stale massage oil. The other was in a remote Moroccan hamman and can only be described as bordering on sexual assault. So, to be honest the only way was up, but Liz Earle did more than simply restore my faith in the back massage. The flagship treatment rooms are immediately calming, everything is exceptionally clean and looked after – not even my critical eye noticed a white fluffy towel out of place. The back massage was fantastic and left me feeling restored and tension-free; the knots in my shoulders were worked out and my lower back kneaded back to life.

£37.50 for 35 minutes.
