Feather Hair Extensions at Kell Skött Haircare

The Blurb:

Run by husband and wife team Kell and Jacqueline, Kell Skött Haircare was voted Best System Professional Salon UK by readers of Vogue.com and Best Salon in Notting Hill by the public in MyNottingHill Awards. The award-winning salon boasts a friendly, professional service plus extra personal touches. The beautiful photography on the walls of the salon is by Kell and every customer is treated to a chocolate brownie handmade by Jacqueline. They are also in-the-know when it comes to the latest hair trends and treatments. I first heard about feather hair extensions from them.

The Process:

I was greeted by Kell and Jacqueline’s cocker spaniels Max and Blue as well as friendly staff when I arrived at the Golborne Road salon. I flicked through the book of press cuttings and perused the complimentary drinks menu, which offered some tempting festive treats such as Christmas gingerbread café latte and white Christmas praline hot chocolate before deciding on a fresh mint tea, which arrived with one of the famous brownies and a sprig of holly.

Senior stylist and colour technician Raoul had a look at the condition of my hair and suggested a conditioning treatment before Ana whisked me off for an indulgent shampoo, condition and head massage. After a gorgeous blow-dry (and some yummy Paul Yacimo products) which gave my hair a gorgeous tousled look, Raoul showed me a selection of feathers from golden to dark hues, rich reds and purples. I chose the golden and fancy feathers which Raoul put in swiftly and easily. The feathers are applied to the hair by threading a small amount of hair (roughly 20 strands) through a micro-ring lined with silicone to safeguard the hair, then the tip of the feather is placed into the ring and the ring is squeezed closed.

The Result:

As I have a lot of long hair I probably should have had a few more put in for greater impact, but when I met up with some girlfriends the following evening they wanted to know where I had the extensions put in. I have since washed and blow dried my hair and they’re still looking good. As the feathers are natural, they can be washed, dried, ironed and curled and should last up to two months. Raoul assured me that I could pop by any time I wanted them taken out if I wasn’t confident enough to take them out myself and suggested turning them into earrings (as his LA-based friend has done) after they’re taken out.

First feather and application is £26; each additional feather £6 or £8.
