The new hair salon located in Westbourne Studios, set up by ex-Daniel Hersheson hairdresser Kelly Ayson, NMBR6 launched in September this year. Drawing on Kelly’s high profile experiences as a stylist at London Fashion Week and working with a number of celebrities and fashion designers, NMBR6 offers customers a hair styling experience with a fresh take on a high end fashion salon.
Tucked in the corner of the ground floor communal space, NMBR6 is surrounded by creatives. Known for their personal relationships with their clients, they’re the go-to for hair in Westbourne Studios.
NMBR6 have stamped their style on the intimate space. Breaking up the white walls, bold turquoise stripes behind large gilt framed mirrors mark out the three work stations. The specially selected all-natural Davines Essential Haircare products line the shelves reflected in the mirrors, injecting bursts of colour.
The Process:
Greeted warmly by Kelly, we got straight to business in my lunchtime appointment, discussing the state of my grown-out barnet before moving across to the basin, where I was treated to a relaxing head massage while my hair was washed.
Back in the chair, Kelly’s scissors got to work while we (Kelly, sweet assistant, cool colourist and I) chatted away; NMBR6 styling the Kardashian Clothing line models for Dorothy Perkins at Westfield London, the imminent death of the dip-dye and name-dropping shampoo brands that don’t care for your hair were all on the gossip list.
I explained that I always dry my hair in a mad rush – so Kelly promised to create a cut that could be whipped into shape with a quick blowdry, while allowing a wow-factor with a little more effort.
Kelly’s family-like team was apparent as, when it came to business, they didn’t need to say a word to each other – a series of nods communicated everything that needed to be done. Kelly and her assistant worked in perfect unison as Kelly snipped away – the pair were like one stylist with four hands.
I could already see the cut framing my face as Kelly got the hairdrier out. Working with the feathered tips, Kelly created a fantastic tousled look, pumping up the volume for a glamorous yet effortless style.
The Result:
The cut was precise and flattering and the blow-dry was adapted to accentuate the natural movement in my hair. I left with locks that were light, shiny and full of bounce. I also left with some great haircare tips from Kelly and a week on, my hair is in great condition and the cut is easy for me to style everyday – just what I wanted.
