Unusual Signs Your Body Might Need More TLC

We all know the usual signs that our bodies need a bit of extra care – feeling tired, getting unwell more often, struggling to stay awake and so on, but what about the more unusual, unexpected signs? These could be the ones you didn’t even realise were problems until someone pointed them out or you finally thought about what your body used to do and feel like compared to now, for example.

The fact is that our bodies have plenty of ways to say it needs a bit of help, so if you’ve been feeling a little off lately but you can’t quite put your finger on it, here are some unusual signs that you might need to do some extra self-care – or see a professional. Read on to find out more.

Your Gums Are Bleeding

Your teeth and gums can actually tell you quite a lot about your overall health, and if your gums bleed when you brush, it’s not just bad luck or that you’re brushing too hard – it could be a sign of something more serious like gum disease, inflammation, or even a vitamin deficiency.

And because your oral health is directly linked to the rest of your body, you really do need to do something about it. Poor gum health has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and even cognitive issues, which is why seeing a dentist and making an appointment with a dental hygienist makes sense – get yourself checked over and up to scratch to be on the safe side.

You Get Muscle Cramps

Have you ever just been sitting on the sofa or lying in bed when suddenly a muscle cramp hits you out of nowhere? Random muscle cramps can be a sign that your body is running low on key minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, and if you keep getting those cramps, it’s a sign to up your intake – it’s literally your body’s urgent message to you for some help.

So where can you get these vitamins? Well, you could start to take supplements, but on top of that (or instead of), you can also add more leafy greens, nuts, and bananas (among other things) to your diet – it’s definitely going to help.

You’re Constantly Itchy

Itchy skin usually makes you think of things like allergies, insect bites, or a bad reaction to something like a new laundry detergent and so on, and these could all be the reason for an itch every now and then. However, if you’re itchy all the time with no clear cause, that’s different, and it could be your body’s way of telling you something’s up.

Persistent itchiness can be linked to all sorts of things like dehydration, liver issues, or even stress, so if this is a problem you find you’ve got, start simply by drinking more water (which is a good idea even if you’re not itchy), reducing stress (again, always a good idea), and, if you’ve tried everything and you’ve still not got any relief, it’s wise to see your doctor about it as they’ll be able to run tests to get to the root cause, and offer plenty of advice about what to do next.
