DragonflyCBD Oil is launching the first-ever CBD formulation with vitamin D

DragonflyCBD Oil with Vitamin D 500mg (£29.50) is set to make the bridging of vitamin D dietary gaps easier than ever.

Dr Tim Bond, natural health expert, dietetic chemist and advisor to Dragonfly Biosciences notes: “The launch of DragonflyCBD Oil with Vitamin D is great news and very much a market first. Wrapping vitamin D into a CBD Oil, allows people to meet the much-needed government recommendations for Vitamin D intakes as well as providing the health and wellbeing benefits of a CBD Oil from helping with sleep, anxiety and stress, supported by science from The World Health Organisation to pain. It comes in a convenient dropper bottle and is useful for those taking a daily dose of CBD who want to ensure that their vitamin D intake meets the recommendations.

“Vitamin D is vital for our health and well-being. A lack of vitamin D can lead to bone health troubles such as rickets in children, and bone pain caused by a condition called osteomalacia in adults. Vitamin D is also essential for our immune function.

“One drop of Dragonfly CBD with Vitamin D provides 2.5 micrograms of vitamin D and the product comes with a recommendation to have a daily serving of five drops which equates to 12.5 micrograms of vitamin D.”

Vitamin D – why we badly need it

A fifth of British adults and one in six children are lacking in vitamin D so NHS guidelines took a shift this year, recommending people don’t just take 10 micrograms (mg) of vitamin D from October through to March, but instead, take it every day, all year. Worldwide, low vitamin D status is so prevalent that some doctors have referred to it as a pandemic.

As this all-important vitamin is usually generated from sunlight, it can be hard to hit our daily quota. Dr Tim Bond, notes: “As more people have adopted indoor lifestyles and sun-protection habits that largely deprive their skin of UV light, rates of vitamin D deficiency have greatly increased which is really bad news for our health.”

But why is vitamin D so important?

Dr Tim Bond explains that vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body; essential nutrients for all our bones and muscles, including out pearly whites.

Menopausal women should also take particular note as a change in hormones can lead to weakened bones, so ensuring they stay strong through this time of life, is crucial. In older people, vitamin D helps reduce the risk of falling associated with postural instability and muscle weakness.

Dr Tim Bond adds: “As well as keeping our immune system strong, this sunshine vitamin is also supported by a number of studies that have found evidence associating low vitamin D levels with a wide range of health issues, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.”

Are there any other ways to get vitamin D?

Just five drops of NEW Dragonfly CBD with Vitamin D are enough to hit your recommended daily quota, whilst also getting a daily dose of CBD. “Taken daily, Dragonfly CBD with Vitamin D will help to reduce the proportion of the UK population with low vitamin D blood levels,” says Dr Tim Bond.

However, you can get some vitamin D through food although as Dr Tim Bond explains, very few foods actually contain it. Opt for oily fish (such as salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel), red meat, liver, egg yolks and fortified cereals and spreads. Vitamin D-enriched mushrooms can also contribute.

Who is most at risk of a deficiency?

During autumn and winter in particular, when the UK sun isn’t strong enough to make vitamin D in the body, everyone should consider taking a daily supplement containing 10mg of vitamin D during the autumn and winter.

Community pharmacist, Sultan Dajani and advisor to Dragonfly Biosciences explains that: “The Department of Health and Social Care also recommends you take this daily supplement of Vitamin D throughout the year if you are not often outdoors (if you’re frail or housebound for example), are in an institution like a care home and/or usually wear clothes that cover up most of your skin when outdoors.

“If you have dark skin – for example, you have an African, African-Caribbean or South Asian background – you may also not get enough vitamin D from sunlight. As a result, the launch of DragonflyCBD with Vitamin D is great news and ticks all the boxes for me,” says Sultan Dajani.
