Dim Sum Diner
'All-in-all a perfect solution for any hungry passer-by'

Dim Sum Diner

Dim Sum Diner is a new concept in Asian dining. It looks and feels like a cross between an American-style diner and an Oriental café and offers an unusually large selection of dim sum for those looking for a quick and delicious lunch, a pre-bowling or cinema supper or a snack somewhere in between.

Unlike many of its local competitors, the menu is easy to grasp and the service as slick as the waiters are helpful. With a tempting selection of at least 25 dim sum (all priced at £3.80), the diner boasts that all the food is made in-house and has no added colouring, artificial flavouring or the dreaded MSG.

I had chosen to dine with my Gates Mates (new-ish friends recruited on the daily school run). The joy of Gates Mates is that we still have so much to learn about each other. Just because our sons share the same teacher, does not necessarily mean I know all their deepest darkest secrets.

We chose wonton noodle soup (without the noodles for those preparing for bikini-wearing holidays), crispy aromatic duck roll, chicken satay with peanut sauce, chicken and mushroom buns and the extraordinary dim sum hot dogs. The most delicious dish of all though was the crispy spinach. This is a much tastier version of the regular Chinese crispy seaweed; less sugar, less scallops and a more satisfying greens portion for anyone looking to count their five a day.

The only dish which disappointed us was the vegetarian parcels, which were decidedly tasteless and very soggy.

All-in-all a perfect solution for any hungry passer-by. It caters for the meat eater, the vegetarian and those adamant about eating Asian without any of the added naughties. And it’s easy on the wallet, too.
