The Full Skirt

We have officially entered the season to be jolly and as the temperature continues to drop: if you don’t want to spend the next few months encased in jeans, then it’s time to embrace my favorite new AW13 trend – The Full Skirt. While the mini is still welcome to make an appearance at the odd party this Christmas, it’s all about the mid-length, full and flirty feminine skirt.

Look to the likes of Aquilano Rimondi and Calvin Klein for inspiration. Box pleats, fifties prom style petticoats and retro glamour full skirts are having their own fashion moment. Whether you go for metallic, a pop of colour or just classic black, this is a trend everyone should incorporate into their holiday wardrobe.

Antonio’s floral metallic skirt is ladylike and glamorous, great for Christmas parties and cocktails with friends. For an affordable alternative, Coast’s Rita skirt in duchess satin has a tulle underlay skirt for exaggerated fullness and looks beautiful with or without tights. Keep your top simple so that the intricate rose gold embroidery doesn’t go unnoticed!

Play with colour, print and length. This style looks fab just above the knee or stretching down past your calves…you decide. Go clean and simple like Daks in navy or venture out of your comfort zone and go for bold colour mixed with animal print. Karen Millen show’s us how with this beautiful leopard wool jacquard paneled skirt.

Whether pleats are for you or not, you can still rock this trend. For accentuating your womanly form, go tight at the waist with a full skirt like Calvin Klein do so elegantly in blue. Or if pleats aren’t your thing then try a mermaid style like Zara’s super chic white skirt, at less than £40 how could you not!?
