Make-up artist to rock stars on both sides of the Atlantic, Celia Burton says she would never leave west London

Where were you born and why would you never leave this area?

I was born on Ladbroke Grove and while I am temporarily living at home with my parents in Hammersmith, I am very excited to be moving into Kensal Rise in a week’s time. West London offers all the vibrancy I love about London life and although it has changed a lot over recent years, it still completely feels like home.

Is there anything you don’t like about west London?

Yes, I sometimes hate the fact I can’t get away from everyone I know!

You come from a talented family; has this spurred you on to achieve so much in your career to date?

My aunt was a very successful make-up artist and when she died six years ago, I felt an overwhelming desire to follow in her footsteps. She led a really rock ‘n’ roll life touring with Boy George, Bananarama and other big names in music. My parents are also hugely inspiring in their career choices; Dad (Harry Burton) is a director and actor, Mum is a successful caterer and my sister is an up-and-coming artist at The Brit School. Drive is something we all have.

You are young to have achieved so much already in your career.  Do you sometimes find that age can be an issue?

As I am only 21 years old, I do frequently find myself in environments where I am a generation younger than everyone else. Age is not an issue unless you make it one, although it can be lonely sometimes when the conversation goes above your head!

Where do you like to hang out with your friends in your down-time?

We tend to go to The Westbourne Tavern, Coffee Plant and The Electric’s half price Mondays is a huge favourite.

Is there anywhere specific you love to shop for your make-up finds?

Space NK on Westbourne Grove is brilliant, as I am always on the lookout for a new gloss. Recently I discovered Sleek Pout Polish, which seems to suit everyone. I am also a big fan of ethically produced ranges and do a lot of my make-up shopping on www.nutribeautyproducts.com.

Which job has impressed you most?

Working with Jamie Winestone, Agyness Deyn and The Chemical Brothers and so many other talented musicians has been a real privilege. This is where my ‘make-up heart’ truly lies.
