In a Kardashian/Jenner generation where big is better, and fillers are becoming a common treatment in a beauty regime, it’s easy to overuse. As with many things, treatments are not always well executed and deciding who to trust to with your face is often more strenuous than making the decision to get the treatment in the first place.
After reading up on Dr Joney De Souza, I was confident I was in good hands. A renowned aesthetic doctor with more than 15 years’ experience, he has worked with some of the best professionals in his field. What’s more, his ethos is natural.
I walked into the clinic, a simple unattended waiting room. A few minutes later Dr De Souza came out of his room with a patient and welcomed me in with a warm smile.
The process:
‘What could you possibly want me to help you with?’—Dr De Souza is someone you instantly like. I’d thought my lips could maybe be bigger, but after asking me to pout, he refused me his ‘signature natural lip’. If I was to have any more (I’d previously had lip fillers), my lips would start to look fake.
My nose was far from bad but I could see a kink in certain photos and it always really annoyed me. He talked me through the different fillers that could be used and the method. I was sold. Asked if I wanted numbing cream or anesthetic, I went for the latter—my pain threshold is that of a child.
Anesthetic was applied and a few minutes later I shut my eyes to avoid spotting the needle. The two stress balls in my hands weren’t needed as the treatment was completely pain-free and Dr De Souza comforted me throughout—I could not be more relieved. I was injected with half a syringe and 15 minutes later I was ready to look in the mirror.
The results
I left with a slight bruise on my nose but feeling great about its shape. Thankfully bruising was my only side effect and although I could notice a difference, everyone else was none the wiser. I love my new shape and look forward to not worrying about the kink.
