Opening in Singapore in 2004, Browhaus has expanded to 40 outlets around the world, in cities such as New York, Hong Kong and—slightly closer to home for me—London. Claiming to be a one-stop shop for brow and lash grooming, in this day and age it seems a pretty important service.
I was keen to try eyelash extensions from the moment I saw them on a few celebrities; their eyes looked incredible with them and the idea of not having to spend time putting on mascara every morning was attractive enough in itself.
I went to the Browhaus on the King’s Road in Chelsea—located in the upstairs of a coffee shop, I spent five minutes wondering if I’d got the address wrong but eventually made it inside. Unfortunately there was a power cut so the shop was lit by candles, but I was told that the treatment could still go ahead.
The process:
Three styles to choose from—Barbie, simple or cat’s eye—I went for Barbie as my eyelashes were already quite long, so I was worried simple might not make a difference. The mascara I had on was removed and the treatment began.
With each eyelash put on individually, the treatment took about an hour to complete. I found the process slightly uncomfortable for my eyes and sometimes felt like my eyelashes were being pulled out, which I had to confirm wasn’t happening with the technician. When the treatment was complete my eyes stung incredibly for the first few minutes and the panic kicked in.
Thankfully the pain subsided and I was left with beautiful lashes.
The results
I was really happy with the results and got plenty of compliments from friends about my new lashes.
However, I struggled with the eyelash maintenance; I followed the instructions but after a week they started to fall out—with two or three of my own eyelashes too, which was very worrying. As more fell out they started to look sparse and eventually I had to go to get them removed after 10 days.
I would probably get eyelash extensions again but only for a holiday or special occasion—they tend to only last two to three weeks, which is a lot of upkeep for everyday life.
