Science Museum

Interactive Afternoon Tea experiences at The Science Museum; Thursday - Sunday, sittings at 12pm and 3pm; from £24

Enjoy an unforgettable family day out with the Science Museum’s new interactive Afternoon Tea experiences, combining hands-on science experiments with delicious themed treats.

Launching at the Gallery Café, these exciting optional add-on activities are designed for children aged 6+ and bring science to life through colourful reactions, creative challenges and engaging table-top experiments.

Alien Activity Package (£24 add-on)

Become a junior scientist and help an alien get ready for school through a series of fun, guided experiments. Activities include Cake O’Clock, where children build a simple electrical circuit using cakes to power a digital clock, Milk Magic, a colourful reaction using milk, food colouring and washing-up liquid, and Alien Toothpaste, a foaming acid-base experiment using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.

Liquid Lava Layers (£10 add-on)

Create your own lava lamp-inspired liquid layers in a bottle using oil, water, coloured pipettes and a fizzy tablet reaction. Watch as carbon dioxide bubbles create a dramatic lava lamp effect while learning about density, separation and chemical reactions.

The experiences are non-edible, fully guided and designed to be safe, accessible and fun, with simple explanations that help young guests understand the science behind each activity.

Alongside the experiments, families can enjoy the themed Kids Science Afternoon Tea (£26), featuring an elemental cupcake decorated with a syringe, test tubes filled with popping candy and colourful toppings, a rocket ship cookie, petri dish jelly, build-your-own fizzy pink lemonade, savoury bites and classic scones with clotted cream and jam.

Adults can enjoy the Adults Science Afternoon Tea (£36), with space-inspired treats including a solar system cupcake, galaxy brownie, rocket ship cookie and petri dish jelly, alongside a selection of savoury sandwiches and an unlimited choice of teas and coffee.
