The Japan Edition; Olympia; until 6th September: FREE
Olympia is celebrating Japanese culture and creativity with The Japan Edition, a vibrant new programme of free art, workshops, wellness experiences, music and Japanese-inspired food and drink.
Inspired by the Design Museum’s major retrospective of Japanese creative powerhouse NIGO, the programme transforms Olympia’s public spaces with a series of striking installations. Highlights include a digital representation of NIGO’s work on Olympia’s 83-metre-long Canvas, a colourful staircase artwork by Japanese artist MADBLAST HIRO, and a spectacular canopy inspired by Japan’s Tanabata Star Festival.
Visitors can also enjoy free Japanese craft workshops, including Kintsugi and Maki-e sessions led by Japan-trained lacquer artist Kira Smith, alongside guided forest bathing from Olympia to Holland Park with nature connection guide Tansy Dowman.
There’s plenty for food and music lovers too, with a sushi pop-up at Idalia, a special Japanese menu at Wolves of Tokyo, and free live music and performances every Wednesday and Sunday from 12pm–5pm throughout August.
Part of Olympia’s new Editions series of cultural takeovers, The Japan Edition offers plenty of opportunities to discover Japanese art, design, wellbeing and creativity – all within Olympia’s public spaces.
