Groovie Comedy at The Grove, Hammermith; Thursdays at 8pm; Tickets £12

Groovie is in the heart… of Hammersmith. Every Thursday night, you will find much hilarity at The Grove Tavern Hammersmith in the shape of comedy and variety shows. This comedy and production company, founded by Gordana Micic and Thomas W Kelly, have just celebrated their 3rd year anniversary (growing from Balkan Comedy Bubble) with over 1300 shows under their belt and over 700 in corporate setting! What are the shows like? Fun, variety of entertainment with inclusive vibes. Groovie Comedy offer key workers a 75% discount through their partnerships and joint ventures.

As well as hosting weekly comedy and variety nights Groovie Comedy tailors to client briefs for private events. Groovie Comedy is built on diversity, inclusivity, and of course having a fantastic time at ticketed and private events for our clients (who increasingly come to us to help them deliver more of the inclusivity agenda). Groovie tackle harassment and have a zero tolerance on this matter, keeping both performers and audience members safe. We’ve all seen Baby Reindeer-it’s a thing.

Why settle for live comedy she asked when you can televise it? Skits and Quibbles is an arts and wellness show, produced in Partnership with Bedford based Wellbeing Media Studio, founded by Dr. Audrey Tang, which streams weekly on e360TV, Amazon Fire TV, AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku and Wellbeing Media YouTube channel. It launched worldwide in February 2024 and showcases top selection of our performing artists, TV personalities and celebrities.

Gordana and Audrey worked together since students at UCL and both actively involved in dance, corporate and theatre productions. The two have done coaching in corporate firms and production of larger scale international events including on C4, BBC/CBBC, NovaTV, ChrissyB show, Wellness Lounge, The Royal Pearls events. With Gordana’s background in ballroom dancing, she often incorporates both dance and comedy in her business packages. She can tango with a mic stand while telling jokes or as her comedy character Balkan Babe, explore dances of eastern Europe. She is also an engineer, and a mum and a member of MENSA…..probably has a Boots card too.

Thomas W Kelly is our Executive Producer, resident drag queen (known as Dark Sugar) and cabaret veteran – bringing the glitz, platform kicks and queer-ness to our roster. Having hosted many productions across the UK as queen, singer and published poet, Thomas has recently taken the spotlight in Skits & Quibbles as solo artist and co-host alongside Gordana. Fascinated by talking about mental health, sex and great hair there’s something unexpected beneath the glitter and verse – he’s an undercover Aussie who’s down-under (cringe) the evolution of this Groovie production.

Courtney Cornfield is known for her quirky effervescent observational style of comedy feeding off her frustration with navigating the SEN world on top of single parenting 3 teenagers…without a Canadian style laundry room. Buy her a drink next time you see her, you’ll find her at The Grove as host and producer. She comes with the added gift of being an excellent improviser having originally trained in the famous Loose Moose improv company in Calgary. Cornfield also has a knack for talking about herself in the third person. A Funny Women Semifinalist as well as having gigged at several top UK clubs.

We welcome wonderful Nicola Nash alongside award winning Kate Cheka (winner of Funny Women in 2023) and Selma Lyons. Nicola Nash is a voracious storyteller, with a natural comic presence and a dark sense of humour. She produces SubFun, supporting women and queer acts, and the Still Standing podcast. She was shortlisted for the Funny Women Stage Award in 2023 and performs in various clubs.

The team is currently working on several productions including themed events across Europe, one of which is ANGER which centers on the main emotions of grieving process in particular anger. Reframing it through jokes, cabaret storytelling and diverse artforms. Another notable production is our feature in World Suicide Prevention Day on 12th September in Bedford Theatre – lead by Dr Audrey Tang supporting CLICK Arts Foundation and The Samaritans.

Can you hear the maple leaves rustle? Canadians syrup-titiously descend upon The Grove Tavern in July, in the lead up to Canada Day – join us on 27th of June with resident Host (our very own Canadian), Courtney Cornfield ( ok it’s me the author of this article) will host a showcase of 4 expat Canadian comedians Aidan Morris, Zoe Browstone, Tyson Bradley and headlining is the exquisitely talented, 5 star reviewed, Madame Chandelier (Delea Shand). Mike Sheer headlines on 25th of July – an amazing chap who’s toured the world making people laugh. Time out magazine describes Mike as” Engaging Irreverence, interesting, often graphic, occasionally surreal”.
