The Mirror, Barcelona

Barcelona's The Mirror immerses Sherelle Jacobs in its white, mirrored vision of modern luxury

The Credentials:

As a hotel, The Mirror Barcelona is a vanguardist vision of whiteness. Pretty much everything is white, from the squad of angel sculptures in the central courtyard to the furniture, walls and floors. There are also mirrors absolutely everywhere, giving a real sense of space. Some sceptics might interpret the feel of this place as something akin to an upscale mental asylum, but for me the decor really worked and made me excited to stay there.

The Mirror is smack in the centre of Barcelona, making it ridiculously practical. The staff were laid back but immensely approachable and eager to help.

Dine:

The Mirror is a proper little boutique hotel and does not have a restaurant. There is, however, a bar and a breakfast area. Breakfast was a very decent continental buffet.

Sleep:

The best thing about staying at The Mirror is getting to enjoy one of its 63 rooms, which are thoroughly good fun.

Naturally the whole interior and all the furniture was white, with a shiny edge. The ceiling to floor mirrors across the entire room immersed me in a rather surreal duplicating mirror universe.

There was luxury in the mix too: Treca de Paris mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets and a 22-inch television in the toilet as well as a larger screen in the main room.

Who Goes There?

A younger than average crowd of fashionistas and design geeks.

Out & About:

The Mirror is near the Avinguda Diagonal, which has plenty of shopping options, from the world famous department store, El Corte Ingles, to larger Spanish high street shops like Mango and Zara.

Avinguda Diagonal is also a stone’s throw from Passeig de Gracia, which is the place to sniff out some of Gaudi’s very best architectural work, including Casa Batllo.

The Worst Thing:

I’m not overly convinced by the television-in-the-toilet trend amongst luxury hotels.

The Best Thing:

The quickest check-in of my life. It literally took about 30 seconds.

From 164 €/night for a single use deluxe room, breakfast 18 €.
