WLG on working in sales

I often feel like I’m in a zoo

‘How are you finding working in sales?,’ Monique asked.
‘Everyone’s been really friendly, supportive and welcoming, but I often feel like I’m in a zoo. Sometimes I can’t hear the person on the other end of the line because of the deafening office noise,’ I replied.
‘Yes, I’ve heard about open plan offices in which the real work happens at home after hours because of the volume of noise.’
‘There’s plenty of office banter, motivational chats, and weird and wonderful characters – from the guy who played rounders in his suit to the “feeder” who is constantly offering cakes. It’s rather fun, and nice discovering everyone’s out-of-work interests.’

A date forwarded me a YouTube scene of Glengarry Glen Ross, in which Blake (performed by Alec Baldwin) says, ‘Coffee’s for closers only.’

I closed my first measly sale on my third day. On my fourth day, a sales director suggested we close the day with him sharing seven psychological questions…

How to win at sales (or scare off a first date)

  1. What’s critical to resolve right now?
  2. How is this impacting on your life?
  3. What do you know you’ve been doing that’s prevented you from resolving this?
  4. What has this cost you in the past?
  5. How is this affecting you now?
  6. What’s going to happen in the future if you don’t get this resolved?
  7. What decision are you making inside of yourself right now?
