'The salon is airy and bright with a happy vibe'

Trim and blow dry at Duck & Dry

The blurb

Pitching itself as a ‘fun, fast and chic’ blow dry bar with affordable prices, Duck & Dry made a bit of a splash when it launched last year.

The process

While we are no strangers to New York-style blow dry bars this side of the pond, it would seem that London’s offerings largely fall into one of two categories; the super high-end (mainly, I imagine, frequented by Chanel-clad ladies who lunch) or the express service salons you panic call before a last-minute date on a bad hair day.

Duck & Dry, which opened on the King’s Road last year, is a welcome addition. The salon is airy and bright with a happy vibe. When I arrive on a Friday evening there is a small crowd lounging by the bar and the music is playing at full blast. It is perhaps not the most relaxing environment but it does get me in the mood for my night out on the town.

My stylist, Emer Finn, greets me with a sunny smile and sits me down for a consultation. I am given a catalogue of the signature blow dry styles and updo looks to choose from and toy with the idea of big loose curls à la Lana Del Rey before Emer points out that it is a style best suited to more layered cuts. Oh. Sleek and sophisticated it is then. Emer shampoos my hair, applies a conditioning treatment and gives me a light trim (both optional extras) before blow drying it into the ‘Classic Duck’ style I have opted for.

The result

My hair is wonderfully smooth and shiny, and styled into polished perfection. Top marks.
