The Process
When it comes to the aesthetics of aesthetics, you couldn’t get more sophisticated than Dr Nyla’s Medispa. No expense has been spared at her London clinic, in the heart of Mayfair on Dover Street; lavish product displays are adorned by wall length mirrors and gold and cream furnishings are stretched out across the spacious foyer.
There is a bit of a wait to see her but it’s worth it. As I enter, Dr Nyla is seated on a sofa next to a video screen, looking like she’s just stepped off a red carpet. She is utterly flawless and I immediately understand why so many people trust her with their skin. We talk through my skin concerns – brown sun spots, AKA melasma on the side of my face – and the complexion challenges that I could start addressing now that I’m well into my 30s. I’m shown other treatments that I may want to try in the future (enter the screen and a video of Kim Kardashian enjoying a routine top-up of one of the many lasers available at the clinic), and I’m given a treatment plan. Now, I’m here to review a one-off treatment of the M22 Laser, but knowing that these plans are given to clients is a very promising start. I prefer clinics that treat you based on what you need and over time, as opposed to a one-off treatment and no further thought. It may be a little daunting but it’s far more effective to play the long game.
I’m taken into the treatment room by Sandra, who bastes my skin with cooling gel and gets to work. The experience is a little uncomfortable but brief, giving the sensation of a hot elastic band snapping at your skin. The process doesn’t last long as the treatment is only applied where it’s needed, so I’m out within ten minutes.
The next day, my face is very slightly swollen with a touch of red that looks like a spot – not noticeable to anyone but me.
The Results
Sandra tells me that the dark spots around my forehead will go darker before they start to break down and fade, and that I would need a few treatments to get results. So it’s a surprise to see – 12 hours after my treatment – that the largest part of the damage had already started to fade. It’s been like pixels disappearing on a screen before my eyes. A week later and the most prominent area has completely gone.
I will be trying the M22 Laser again. When it comes to anti-ageing, I’ve not seen more obvious results from anything else so far.
