Facialist and skincare expert Sarah Chapman is no insider’s secret; favored by a jet-set crowd of beauty editors, celebrities and in-the-know Londoners, her name is synonymous with some of the most flawless complexions around, including Jemma Kidd and Naomi Watts. Keen to discover how she attracted such a devoted clientele, I went along to try the signature facial at her Skinesis clinic, expectations high.
The Process:
Philipa, my therapist, led me into a light, airy and spacious room. By the bed lay an enticing array of products, clinical-looking machines and elegant glass instruments, while a Café del Mar-style soundtrack played softly in the background. Before the treatment started she took time not only to analyse my skin under a bright light, but also to discuss my current skincare regime, offering some advice on supplements and products I might want to consider incorporating into my daily routine. What then followed was a blissful mixture of techniques and divine smelling products all chosen for specifically for my skin, including; a thorough deep cleanse, a clay steam, a mild glycolic peel applied using galvanic current (to help the active ingredients penetrate deep into the skin), some gentle extraction and a vitamin a mask, interspersed with sweeping shoulder and neck massages creating a truly extrasensory experience. The whole treatment was topped-off with an alginate mask, applied in gel form with a brush, which solidified on my skin and was then removed in one fell swoop, to reveal my new glowing complexion.
The Result:
As I have sensitive skin I am often left quite literally red-faced after a facial, but thanks to the healing and soothing properties of the products my therapist used I was able to skip out of the clinic head held high and skin glowing. A couple of days later, I am still seeing the benefits of the treatment, and both the bags under my eyes and blackheads on my nose, are all but gone. This facial may be pricey but for the lasting benefits to mind and body, it is a price worth paying.
