Oblique, South Kensington

A few minutes walk from South Kensington tube on Old Brompton Street, is Oblique… a boutique wellness and aesthetics clinic that blends clinical expertise with a spa-like sense of calm. The space is luxe with brass fittings and sumptuous soft furnishings, it is colour drenched in a rejuveinating hue of ‘Eau de Nile’ – a similar shade to my kitchen – so I instantly feel at home.

The staff are friendly and treatments range from light therapy and injectables to holistic massage — all delivered with an emphasis on discreet and natural results. With its welcoming atmosphere and tailored ‘consultation-based’ approach, Oblique has become a destination for clients seeking confidence-boosting skin with a side order of restorative calm.

The Process

I’m here to try Endospheres Therapy- a body contouring treatment designed to tackle stubborn areas of fat and cellulite on the arms, back, waist, abdomen, thighs and buttocks.

Much like lymphatic drain massage, Endospheres begins by opening up the lymph nodes – small, bean-shaped masses of lymphatic tissue containing white blood cells (lymphocytes) that serves as a critical filter for the body’s immune system. The therapist then sweeps excess fluid towards them, to clear out stagnation the natural way. Unlike lymphatic drain massage, Endospheres harnesses the power of micro-vibration; utilising fifty-fve silicone spheres which are rotated at speed in a roller device to break down stubborn fat deposits at their source.

The device looks pretty serious, like a rolling pin with rubber teeth… but it’s effectively a series of probes that spin on rotation, workng in a similar way to a massage chair. Once the device is switched on, it sounds like a car wash and feels a bit like someone’s driving a toy tractor over your back. You’d be forgiven for thinking that what I’m describing doesn’t sound relaxing – and in all honesty, it’s not – but what it leaves, are waves of relaxation in its wake.

If a more traditional hand massage ‘coaxes’ tension out of the muscles then Endospheres is ‘charging’ it out. But, what strikes me, is that it’s not an unpleasant experience at all. In fact, it’s extremely pleasurable and highly addictive. As the roller moves away from each area of tension, I find myself willing it to come back around for one more turn.

The Results

I like a heavy-handed massage – if you don’t – this might not be for you, but the results speak for themselves. They’re remarkable, in fact… I can see my abs in the mirror for the first time since having a baby. And what’s more… I feel instantly lighter and energised: like I’ve been on a diet, a boot camp and three week tropical holiday all within the space of an hour.

It’s safe to say I’m an Endospheres convert and I’ll definitely be returning to Oblique to try some more of the wide range of treatments they have on offer.
