The Process
I breathe an audible sigh of relief, as Matt sits me down in the chair. Only minutes earlier, I’d nearly lost my footing in a scuffle over a particularly hot morning coffee in a nearby deli and, now, here I am in Matt’s very capable hands being furnished with a cup of chamomile tea.
We talk through what he’s going to do. I tell him that I want to lose some of the sun-damaged length (loathe as I am to part with the vestige of sunnier times) and that I’d like to try out some side bangs – swooshy, like Brigitte Bardot in Viva Maria not floppy like Nick Carter in… well… the Backstreet boys.
Matt takes my slightly overbearing instructions in his stride. Not only is he a seasoned professional with 30 years of experience under his belt – he’s a real people person and there’s something infinitely calming about his presence. No sooner has he started snipping away, I find myself telling him things about my life that I haven’t told anyone.
The Results
As I step up from the chair, I feel calmer, lighter and nimble on my feet. The once crispy ends are but a distant memory and the new side bangs reveal cheekbones I didn’t know I had. And it’s swooshy, so swooshy in fact, that I can’t stop swooshing it. Look out shoppers… step aside or be swooshed.
In addition to the haircut, the generous folk of Josh Wood gave me some products to try and I can confirm that their miracle shampoo, conditioner and hair mask are my new brand of choice. In addition, my mother who has used the same brand of shampoo for twenty years and swears never to touch conditioner, is also a convert.
