Holly McKenna on why D. Thomas’s signature DNA facials are her new go-to treatment

What They Say

Driven by a genuine desire to make a lasting impact on her clients, Debbie Thomas has crafted a revolutionary technique that combines her extensive skin knowledge with a holistic treatment philosophy. Known as the ‘DNA method’, this exceptional approach seamlessly blends state-of-the-art high-science skincare treatments with the indulgent experience of a luxury skin and laser clinic. The transformative power of Debbie’s method has not only earned her the well-deserved reputation as the ‘London laser queen’ and ‘skin whisperer’, but it has also changed the lives of countless individuals.

The Process

In a world of aesthetic clinics that offer extensive lists of treatments, it’s hard to know what treatments will actually work best for your skin. As a beauty writer, I’ve spent hours scouring the internet for descriptions of new treatments, looking for that ultimate package to keep my skin a little tighter and brighter as I inevitably age in the most fabulous way possible.

But what if you could cut out all that research? The D. Thomas DNA Essential Skin package (available for Grades 1 to 3, depending on the treatment intensity) begins with a detailed consultation, during which your skin type and concerns are thoroughly assessed. Then, your aesthetician creates a bespoke treatment just for your skin.

Grade 2 and 3 treatments require a path test, and I’m here for the most popular treatment on the list, a Grade 2. Luckily, these treatments are designed to be had regularly, once every 4-6 weeks, so the best way to patch test is, of course, a cheeky Grade 1 facial right off the bat. For this, my face was cleansed and exfoliated in preparation for the laser treatment, followed by a light application of lactic acid to prepare. Then, a few lasers were tested on my skin, followed by a casual Hydrafacial, some extractions, and Byonik—a new and very unique treatment that delivers pulse-triggered red and near-infrared lasers in time with the user’s heartbeat, allowing for deeper penetration and absorption of the product. Not bad for a test drive.

I visited again a few weeks later for the Grade 2. This time, a total of 5 different lasers were used on my face (!), all chosen by the clinic based on a thorough assessment of my skin. This included one laser to ‘bank’ collagen, boosting production and allowing my skin to top up (as we can’t avoid the dreaded collagen loss over time); one for pigmentation; one for pores; and even one that worked to subtly retract the muscles around my mouth that cause lines AND enhance my lips at the same time.

A soothing manuka serum and tinted SPF were then applied, and I was sent on my way. Thanks to the gentle application and clever doctor-approved soft tint, there was hardly any redness.

The Results

The Grade 1 Facial is more than just a facial. I’d much rather an expert choose what my skin needs for me than scroll through a menu and pick the one I think I need. And let’s face it, anything that includes a Hydrafacial as just one part of the package can’t go wrong.

The Grade 2 was everything I wanted in an advanced facial. Administered so smoothly, I forgot that the bulk of this treatment was indeed numerous intense lasers.

Debbie’s DNA facials are a game-changer. My skin felt incredibly healthy after both treatments, my complexion clear and glowing. I barely needed to wear any makeup at that time, but when I did, it sank in more smoothly than normal.

What I love about this setup is that you pay for your treatment, and the hour you spend there is expertly curated to meet your face’s needs at the time. So, in theory, if I were to visit, say, once every 6 weeks, I would have all the upkeep I could ever need. It’s a no-brainer, and perfect for anyone who wants advanced laser and facial treatments to keep them looking fresh, bank on collagen, and cut out the stress of researching treatments for their ever-changing needs.
