Hair Extensions at Taylor Rose

What They Say

“We will discuss your requirements for your dream look and check the condition of your hair to ensure your hair is suitable for extensions. Whether you would like to achieve incredible volume, sensational length – or both – we will advise you on the best course of action to take to ensure your hair is completely transformed!

We want you to feel delighted with the result of your extensions and in order to create your desired look we use the finest, 100% human hair of the highest quality.

One of the most important stages of the consultation is to match your hair colour to our extensions, making sure we have the closest match for your hair for beautiful blending and to make your new length look as natural as possible. This can involve the use of different coloured extensions, which can be worked into your hair to achieve a blended or highlighted effect which perfectly matches the colours and tones of your own hair.”

The Process

I first came for a consultation and colour match with salon owner Gem. We discussed the length and volume that would look best, then Gem painstakingly analysed all the different tones that make up my hair.

I’ve had extensions seven times over the years, and I’ve never once had anyone spend even half as much time sourcing and blending the perfect selection of tones. Gem ordered in about six colour options, then, a week later, held them all up next to my own hair in different ratios until she’d reverse-engineered the perfect hue from a blend of three of these. The colour match is impeccable – I challenge anyone to identify where my natural hair ends, and the extensions begin.

I was given a choice between microrings or keratin bonds to attach the extensions. It was a close call – both have advantages – but I settled on microrings in the end, mainly because I’m fastidious about preventing damage and their removal doesn’t require acetone.

We added about five inches to the ends of my natural hair. Taylor Rose only use great quality human hair, which matched my natural texture perfectly. I was tonged into mermaid waves in the salon (see pic above), but I’ve had them for a fortnight now and find they look just as good left in a plait overnight and let loose into natural waves in the morning.

The only extra maintenance needed is additional rinsing time after a wash to really check all shampoo residue is out of the rings, and a non-negotiable blow-dry to the roots where the rings attach within 30 minutes of washing. I’ve found I particularly like the effect when the roots are blasted dry but I leave the lengths to air-dry more slowly, creating a sort of natural, textured, ethereal mermaid wave.

The Results

The time and effort that Gem put into getting the perfect colour match really paid off – see my before and after picture above. Blending three or four colours created lengths indiscernible from my own, and the hair texture is super fine and undamaged.

We added a good five or so inches in length, but you absolutely couldn’t tell – these do not look like extensions!
