CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2

What They Say

CurrentBody Skin brings clinic-grade, aesthetic technologies directly to your home. Working with doctors and leading dermatologists to develop scientifically proven, at-home beauty devices for over 15 years, we don’t just promise results, we prove them.

The Pull

Some are drawn to the latest skincare gadgets for their popularity amongst A-listers, like Cillian Murphy and Kim Kardashian (for whom CurrentBody’s LED mask is a certified favourite); for me, it was when Cambridge professor, mathematician and everyone’s (my) favourite TV scientist Hannah Fry swore by hers that I finally jumped on the beauty bandwagon.

The Science

An upgrade from its predecessor, the Series 2 mask has an impressive 236 LEDs (up from 132 in Series 1), designed to deliver consistent, even coverage across your entire face. It emits three highly precise wavelengths: red light (633nm) to stimulate collagen production; near-infrared (830nm) to penetrate deeper, boosting cellular energy and reducing inflammation; deep near-infrared (1072nm) to reach the lower dermis, supporting tissue repair and the skin’s underlying support structure.

In terms of tangible results, what these various wavelengths achieve is this: the red light works to soften fine lines; near-infrared brightens and firms; and deep near-infrared targets more advanced signs of ageing. With consistent use, red light therapy can also help calm inflammation, even out skin tone and reduce breakouts – making it suitable for my blemish-prone skin as well as anyone more focussed on ‘smart ageing’.

By working through multiple depths of the skin simultaneously, this clever little mask delivers results that go beyond a surface-level glow, instead making gradual, long-term improvements in firmness, texture and resilience.

There’s also a reassuring level of clinical rigour behind the tech, having undergone extensive clinical trials and peer-reviewed research into LED light therapy, with findings consistently showing improvements in skin clarity, firmness and the appearance of fine lines when used regularly – this is alongside ongoing studies conducted by the University of Manchester and French lab-testing giant Eurofins.

Every device also comes with an NFC card that links to Veritace – CurrentBody’s own quality-assurance system – allowing you to access detailed quality testing and performance results.

The Mask

As someone who struggles to stay consistent with any kind of beauty regime, one of this mask’s greatest strengths is its simplicity. There’s no complicated in-app or multi-step setup, just a straightforward control unit and a single button that initiates a 10-minute treatment.

It’s also unexpectedly comfortable to wear, extremely lightweight, and easily adjusted with Velcro straps, so you don’t have to carve out an uninterrupted 10 minutes every day to use it.

The Verdict

I’ve been using the mask religiously for the past eight weeks, primarily to manage inflammation and keep breakouts under control, and I’ve been extremely impressed with the results. My skin appears calmer, with redness visibly reduced and any flare-ups dying down faster than they would normally. I’ve also noticed a definite – and unprecedented – glow and calmness to my complexion. An added bonus that I hadn’t expected so soon has been a subtle softening of a fine line in the centre of my forehead, and a few around my eyes.
