The Process
Unlike most at-home whitening kits, Bond Dental’s service begins with a thorough in-person consultation. I visit Dr Kev Patel – the man at the helm – in his Mayfair clinic in early December for a chat. The Mayfair clinic is brand new, and Dr Kev puts me instantly at ease. It’s immediately evident that, whilst a dentist by trade, he’s also an entrepreneur who has been quietly and determinedly growing his empire. With clinics popping up all over town, it’s worth noting that there’s also an altruistic side to him. He tells me that all of Bond’s clinics, whilst operating in some of London’s most desirable postcodes, have community at their heart and make a point of seeing regular NHS patients.
Dr Kev informs me that whilst home whitening is an extremely popular treatment, it’s not suitable for everyone. Enamel damage can render the process ineffective and decay or cavities may be affected by the formula. Crowns or fillings will not respond well to whitening, so I’m here to make sure that the treatment is right for me. We begin the consultation with a 3D scan of my teeth. A daunting prospect! But as a high-def 360 of my jaw loads onto Dr Kev’s screen, I’m relieved to admit that they don’t look as bad as I’d predicted.
Dr Kev advises that I’d also be a suitable candidate for Invisalign, and that he’d recommend it to ensure that my wayward bottom tooth doesn’t upset the placement of the others. After careful examination, Dr Kev is pleased to report that my teeth will respond to the whitening process. The next step is to send off the scans for the custom-fit trays. Then I’m whisked upstairs to the hygienist who gives my teeth a full polish and descale. This ensures that the formula has maximum exposure to the surface area of the tooth, increasing the effect of the process.
In under an hour, I’m on my way home with a smart black box containing four 3ml whitening syringes that must be kept in the fridge. Dr Kev instructs me to add just a tiny amount to each tray and wear them every night for two weeks (or until I’m happy with the shade). He also links me to an informative video on Bond’s website, offering a step-by-step guide to achieve the best results.
The Results
The ‘night-whitening formula’ is an ‘ultra-stable’ peroxide teeth gel which optimises results at the same time as reducing sensitivity. The trays arrive just before Christmas, so it’s January before I manage to find two quiet weeks to perform the treatment. In need of a beauty boost, I eagerly begin and am pleased to report that I don’t feel any sensitivity the next morning. On day one, my teeth are slightly whiter, but not dramatically so. After ten days, the results are much more noticeable – I’m on my way towards that coveted Hollywood smile. The best part is… I have plenty of formula left to combat future stains and yellowing.
