Via Emilia

The Blurb

There isn’t really anything bad to say about Via Emilia. If you like Pasta, cheese and cured Italian meats, then you, my friend, are in for a pleasant evening.

The pasta is served al dente, which is to say deliberately (very slightly) undercooked. If that’s your thing, then there’s another tick point for potential visitors.

The Style

The decor is modern minimalist, the service is decent, and the atmosphere is quite buzzy on a Friday. These are comfortable surroundings, for sure.

A group of you could take the smart, orange-covered benches and chairs, or if there’s just the two of you, you can sit down on one of the smaller side counters and stalls. Regardless of this choice, most seatings are within the view of a strip of lush, green succulents in tall tiled planters.

I’ll say this: it’s not a stressful environment, and it’s well kitted out to help you relax after a long day at work.

The Food

Do people get excited about pasta anymore? Did they ever? I suppose, given the astronomical number of Italian restaurants in London, people probably still do, and if you are one of them, then pop along here and please indulge. It’s good pasta done well.

There’s no specific flair here, no real signature twist or identity that can be imparted onto the plates that will single it out – at least to my taste – from any number of other pasta specialists residing in the capital right now. However, if you find the thought of spaghetti, gnocchi, ravioli and beyond a tantalising prospect, then you could do worse than spend an hour or two in here because I suspect you’ll quite enjoy it.

The Details

The restaurant is on All Saints Road in Notting Hill, which is well within reach of a number of pubs and bars if you wish to carry on your evening. It’s also pleasingly close to a couple of tube stations if you feel stuffed enough after all the carbs to just go home instead.
