Santo Remedio Cantina & Comedor to open in September

When Santo Remedio opened in Shoreditch last year it was the first of the new wave of Mexican openings to hit London and is still considered by many to be one of the most authentic and exciting. Since that location closed in September 2016, Edson and Natalie have continued to develop their concept with a series of pop-ups and collaborations and are thrilled to announce the launch of their new, larger permanent site in London Bridge.

The 90-cover Cantina & Comedor is set over two floors and has been designed by Mexican-born Edson and Natalie. The interiors reflect their heritage and include a number of design features hand-picked from recent trips to Mexico City, Merida and Oaxaca.

The ground floor Cantina, a traditional Mexican bar, will focus on Tequila and Mezcal cocktails alongside a range of tacos and snacks, including Santo Remedio’s signature guacamole with grasshoppers. Served from a custom built bar reminiscent of the great cantinas of Mexico City, cocktails will be specially crafted using some of Mexico’s finest heritage 100% agave Mezcal and Tequilas.

In the upstairs Comedor, a traditional Mexican dining room, reservations will be taken at both lunch and dinner. Edson will continue to serve up his much loved tacos alongside the regional Mexican specialties he has become known for. These include sharing dishes such as fish al Pastor, gorditas de chicharron prensado, Chiles Rellenos—one of Mexico’s most iconic festive dishes, Prawn Aguachile Rojo, Short Rib with Mole Negro and Plantain Puree and Pork Chop with Mole Rosa.

Santo Remedio strives to deliver the most authentic Mexican experience available in London and will be working with specialist importers and producers, such as Promega and Gringa Dairy, to bring you new and unknown flavours and ingredients.

They will also be working with wine consultant Zeren Wilson of Bitten & Written on the wine list. Mexican wine from Baja California will be well represented, primarily by L.A. Cetto, but also by La Lomita and Vena Cava. There will also be a frequently changing short selection of wines from the rest of the world, kicking off with iconic wineries from California and Spain.
