Princess Victoria Reopens

Princess Victoria, a former tram stop and gin palace in Shepherd’s Bush, has reopened under new ownership and now boasts a rejuvenated menu, a wine shop and reinvigorated décor.

Head chef Matt Reuther, formerly of No 1 Lombard St and the three Michelin-starred Oak Room, will be delivering a menu of pub classics with a dash of culinary flair – so expect mouth-watering dishes of Smoked Pork Belly, Black Pudding Mash and Poached Egg, and Hanger Steak with Triple-Cooked Chips.

The Sunday roasts hit all the right notes: Rib of Cumbrian beef and Yorkshire Pudding and Woolley Park Farm Chicken with Bread Sauce are fast becoming favourites. The bar menu, served all day, includes everything from monkey nuts and homemade pork scratching to whitebait, half pints of prawns, the ‘Princess Victoria’ Tamworth scotch eggs and charcuterie boards for sharing. Matt prides himself on making as much as he can from scratch on site. That includes the likes of pork, leek and stilton sausages and the oak-smoked salmon and citrus-cured cod. His kitchen boasts state of the art equipment such as a newly installed dehydrator, an ageing room and a Josper charcoal grill.

Princess Victoria has a strong following among London’s serious wine lovers. The list champions Pinot Noir from all over the world and currently offers such rarities as the 2007 Spätburgunder Dernauer- Pfarrwingert ‘Grand Cru’ by the prestigious winery Meyer-Näkel from Germany’s Ahr Valley and the Michelle Richardson, Central Otago New Zealand 2009. Truffle Hunting has expanded the pub’s offering with a new wine shop on the premises that allows guests to purchase some rare and exceptional wines at retail prices. New wines on the shelves include Terre di Chieti Bianco Madregale 2012 from Abruzzo and Garnacha Fuente Verde 2012, Bodegas Monfil, Spain. The pub remains a go-to destination for wine lovers, with rare fine wines on offer behind the bar, and in the newly opened shop, where you’re able to purchase personal favourites from an extensive list of wines.

The pub’s commitment to both wine and its local community is reflected in a programme of regular events including Monday Wine Shop Nights inviting guest to BYOB from the ‘PV Wine Shop’, Thursday night supper clubs and Blind Tasting Wine Dinners designed to introduce guests to exciting and unexpected wines from around the world.
