It’s safe to say, there are certain items in your wardrobe you wear forever then finally update—swapping them out for something that basically looks the same. In fact, for most guys their wardrobes are made up of these staple items because not only do they never go out of style, they always look great.
1. Blue jeans
How many pair of jeans do you have in your wardrobe? Three? Four? Ten? Denim experts reckon you only need three pairs of jeans (preferably high quality ones) and that they rarely need washing—which is great news—but whatever number you have hanging in your wardrobe they’re probably blue, right? These jeans go with anything and come in a huge variety of styles to suit everyone, which is why they never go out of fashion.
2. That comfy hoody
Great for throwing on whether you’re heading out for a run or just nipping to the shop, we all have a comfy hoody in our wardrobe. The comfy hoody will never go out of fashion, whether you opt for the Primark variety in every colour, or prefer higher quality Superdry hoodies.
Be warned—it will probably go missing after the girlfriend has been round the house.
3. A good shirt
Every man needs a decent button down shirt (this doesn’t necessarily have to mean expensive, as this Buzzfeed article proves) in his wardrobe for that last minute date, work meeting or posh event. If it has the ability to feature cufflinks you’re onto a winner. Preferably white, which will never go out of fashion.
4. Leather jacket
Remember the Fonz? Probably not. But he made leather jackets cool in the 70s and 80s and they haven’t lost their appeal yet. They never go out of fashion because they’re another item that can be worn with absolutely anything, like those blue jeans and your good shirt. We’re onto something here.
5. White crew neck t-shirt
Basic tees are probably overflowing from your drawers, which you’ve been meaning to sort through and cut down. But don’t throw away those white t-shirts, unless they have some questionable stains on them. They’re the perfect wardrobe staple, they look great under shirts, on their own with some jeans or just to wear to bed if you’re a pyjama sort of guy. Bottom line—you’ll never go wrong with a classic white T and it will never, ever date.
6. Converse high tops
These guys have been around since the early 1900s, and Chuck Taylor All Star high tops are the ultimate everyday shoe that go with absolutely everything and will never ever go out of fashion. Your Dad was probably wearing them in the 60s and you’re probably going to be wearing them when you have kids.
