Nine Best-Selling Celebrity Perfumes

Want to smell like a celebrity? Try these 9 scents.

Ever since movie queen and true Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor came out with her first perfume, Passion, all the way back in 1987, many celebrities have tried their hand at releasing a designer perfume. Stats show that the celebrities that make a lot of money by designing their own fragrance have proved that it’s more than just somewhere to branch out their brand, but can be a whole new business direction for the most successful creations.

Here are the top nine celebrity fragrances that were a hit in the market. Why not give them a try?

1.       Heat by Beyoncé

First released back in 2010, it was no surprise that Heat would do so well due to whose name was attached. Much more than a chart-topping artist, some of Beyoncé’s positive attributes are her class, elegance, and sophistication, and Heat’s scent is designed to represent these traits. Each spray exudes magnolia and peach, which then moves on to other tones with honeysuckle and milkwood. Demand for Heat naturally skyrocketed, with sales reaching $400 million.

2.       Glow by Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez started her career as a dancer and actor before venturing into the music industry. When she released her first fragrance, Glow, nobody would have expected it to make $300 million in one year. Released in 2004, it has notes of vanilla, grapefruit, orange and jasmine. The scent is both appealing and desirable, hence its popularity.

3.       Curious by Britney Spears

Similar to Beyoncé, Britney Spears as a brand has no problem selling perfume. Her signature perfume, Curious, sold for $100 million in the first five weeks after it launched in 2004. It’s still one of the most popular of her 35 fragrances, even after a decade. Notes you can detect in the fragrance include pear, tuberose, jasmine, and magnolia.

4.       Reb’l Fleur by Rihanna

As we’ve already noted, musicians that choose to release their own brand of perfume tend to be successful, and Rihanna is no exception. Her  Reb’l Fleur fragrance made $80 million in its first year. Although it launched officially in 2011, it’s still seeing impressive sales figures even today. The fragrance has an aroma of violet, rose, plum, and peach, leaving a sweet, lasting smell.

5.       White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and Elizabeth Taylor created a signature perfume that encompasses just that. First hitting the stores in 1991, it has become a classic fragrance amongst women, especially those who happen to be Elizabeth Taylor fans. White Diamonds can be described as floral, with notes of lilies and gardenias. Throughout its time it has made $63.1 million, and is truly a classic choice for women with classy tastes, and will continue to be for years to come. Diamonds are forever, after all!

6.       Fancy by Jessica Simpson

Although Jessica Simpson isn’t the most popular actress or singer on this list, she still has a lot of fans out there, and her perfume endeavour has been her most successful work to date. When it was released in 2008, Fancy went on to make a cool $18 million. Simpson has released several other fragrances since then, but Fancy is easily her most successful. If you use it, you can expect to smell hints of jasmine, caramel, and almonds. Or, if you fancy being fancy for less, why not check out Rebel Aromas Dupe Perfumes!

7.       Harujuka Lovers by Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani first broke into the music industry as the lead singer for the ska punk band No Doubt, before launching a successful solo career which saw many great chart-topping hits. Many of her videos feature the “Harajuka Girls” dancers, whose name and style were inspired by the iconic fashion district in Tokyo, Japan, so it’s unsurprising that she named her perfume after them. Sales figures show it made $18 million in its first year. The collection is made up of five different scents, four of which are dedicated to Harajuku, and one dedicated to Gwen herself.

8.       Unforgivable by Sean John

Reading the name “Sean John,” you might not immediately recognize who it is. Many people know him by his stage name of Puff Daddy or P. Diddy, or simply just Puffy. Either way, he’s an incredibly talented musician, and his signature scent didn’t do too badly either! In fact, in just one year, 2011, Unforgivable managed to make $17.2 million. This cologne is more for men, having notes of lemon, sage, rum, amber, and sandalwood. But don’t fret, ladies! There’s also a female version of Unforgivable.

9.       Someday by Justin Bieber

Although he might not be everyone’s cup of tea, Justin Bieber certainly knows how to make a good scent. His many adoring fans, the Beliebers, are more than willing to buy merchandise with his name on it. In just the first three weeks after launch, Someday made $3 million. This perfume contains soft tones of flowers and fruit, such as mandarin, wild berries, and jasmine. Looks like Justin Bieber is going to win more than a few new friends with this gorgeous perfume!
