Londoners find budgeting the most stressful part of the festive season

This year, 64% of Londoners plan to gift homemade presents. Over half of Londoners (51%) will use skills economy to make gifts/decorations.

With supply chain issues in the UK caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit, new research reveals 64% of Londoners plan to give homemade gifts this year, according to Airtasker, a trusted community marketplace that connects people who need work done with people who want to work.

Over half of Londoners (51%) said they’ll turn to the skills economy and use platforms such as Airtasker to find people to make gifts, toys or decorations (33%) or to cook/bake for them (18%).
Londoners are changing their purchasing behaviour with 19% starting their gift shopping earlier and 12% opting to buy their Christmas tree earlier this year. Many are also forgoing food traditions with nearly a fifth (18%) going without a turkey dinner.

When asked about their motivations for paying for festive task help, 34% of Londoners said they’d feel confident of a better outcome given a skilled person would do it and 31% think it would reduce their stress/mental load. Interestingly, 30% said they’d feel good about providing someone with a job/income.

The survey also revealed what Londoners deem the most stressful festive tasks which included budgeting (19%), Shopping for gifts (17%) and cleaning (17%).

Budgeting came out on top as the most stressful part of the holiday season, which isn’t surprising given 44% of Londoners will spend between £100-£300 less this Christmas. The findings revealed 25% of respondents are dishing out less this festive season due to lower disposable income while 30% are worried about the economic uncertainty of COVID-19.
