Trooping the Colour
Trooping the Colour is taking place on the 15th of June. The 2nd Battalion Irish Guards will be trooped at the King’s birthday parade. The King will travel from Buckingham Palace with an escort from the Household Cavalry Regiment. As the clock chimes, The King will take a Royal Salute from officers of the Household Division. Trooping the Colour stems from traditional preparations for battle when the regiment’s Colour was trooped down the ranks so that they could be recognised by soldiers. This would serve as a rallying point to aid in the confusion of battle. Those without tickets can choose a spot by The Mall or at St James’ Park. This overlooks the Horse Guards so that you can see the full parade from the sidelines. This event is popular in the UK, so if you do want tickets, make sure you’re fast about it. It starts at 10 am and finishes at 12:25 pm.
Chelsea Flower Show
The Chelsea Flower Show is taking place between the 21st of May and the 25th of May.
Popular in UK culture, the Chelsea Flower Show is often televised by the BBC. Gardening has a strong presence in the media, with flower-themed games, including the Secret Garden, and popular podcasts, which are available on Spotify. For this reason, it’s no surprise to see that this event is such a hit with people across the country.
With so much hype about the show this year, it’s set to be a huge event for London, with many people from across the UK travelling to see it in all of its glory. Gardens are going to be delivered by medal-winning designers, not to mention that there are going to be a lot of fresh faces. The new All About Plants garden is going to make a twist on the traditional theme, with edible skate parks, tropical forests and plants for gut health amongst the design. This is helping to make this year’s event highly anticipated, with several interesting additions that make the show a stand-out choice for those visiting London.
The Proms
The Proms is a classic festival that is hosted at the Royal Albert Hall. It takes place in South Kensington with the series started by Robert Newman. He organised several concerts as a manager for the Queen’s Hall. 120 years later, you can now gain access to 92 concerts that run between July and September. Conductors lead various orchestras, as they play the music of Bruckner, Wagner and Beethoven. Hollywood film scores are often played, and last year, Marin Alsop was the first female conductor to direct the grand finale. The 2024 season runs from the 19th of July until the 14th of September, with more details to be announced on the 25th of April. Tickets are being put on sale on the 18th of May. Due to high demand, most of the tickets for the final night are going to be allocated via ballot.
