As it finally—if inconsistently—starts to warm up and the blue skies of spring peek out from behind the winter clouds, it’s time to start looking ahead to afternoons in the park and weekends at the beach, and update our wardrobes accordingly. If you’re not ready to invest in a whole set of new-season clothing yet, though, refreshing your accessories is the perfect way to gradually introduce some summer colour and detailing!
New grass is growing, and so is brass—as the metal du jour! Lanvin was a prime example of the fondness for the metal seen in jewellery on the catwalk, with everything from heavy brass statement pieces to more delicate confections, such as the tassel and fox necklaces below.
Next on to our faithful friend the bag, and this spring there are some stand-out trends to choose from, including the classic saddle bag—which also incorporates the 70s vibe that was seen across many catwalk collections. Some of the best examples were seen at Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton and Chloe, such as this retro Marcie medium cross-body bag.
Or seek out your own niche version of the look—aim for nostalgic yellows and tans, buckles, and suede, as in this gorgeous handmade version from Etsy seller ByLeatherz.
Alternatively, go for a graphic bag with a vivid floral print. Florals go hand in hand with spring, and Fendi, Marni and Valentino can’t all be wrong—bonus points for clashing colours too, as seen in the Valentino and Topshop offerings below.
Finally, what would a new-season look be without some fierce footwear to take it places? Cage/gladiator sandals were big on the Alexander McQueen and Chloe catwalks, and whether you want to channel goddess or warrior there’s a version for you!
