WLG hears some wise words from a good friend

‘Stop harping on the "no phone call for four days" thing'...

Shannon rightly gave me a stern ticking off this week. Like all good friends, she didn’t mince her words. It came about because Jake and I had got our wires crossed. Consequently we both thought the other wasn’t interested… ‘Stop harping on the “no phone call for four days” thing. Yeah, I know the “secret rules” but a lot of decent guys don’t,’ Shannon said. She was right and there was more to follow. However, it was her axiom that Jake and I reminded her of, that I couldn’t help forwarding to a couple of friends…
‘There once was a girl caught in a rising flood. While all her neighbours rushed to their cars and bikes to get of harm’s way, she held on to her faith that God was going to save her so she needn’t fear, nor toil.

The waters rose so she climbed the upper floors, then to the rooftop. Survivors came by in a small boat. “Jump, we’ll save you,” they called. The brave, faithful girl shook her head and called down confidently, “You go on. I have faith in my God. He’ll save me.”

The waters continued their relentless rise and time and time. The girl held firm to her belief that God wouldn’t let her down.

Finally, the floods consumed her and presently she found herself at the pearly gates. A bit worse for wear and somewhat perturbed at the big man, himself, she pulled her drenched self up to her full height, and standing akimbo she glared and snarled, “I followed all the rules; I held to my faith. Why did you let me drown?”

And God shook his head slowly, slapping his hand to his forehead, and in utter disbelief he answered, “I sent you a boat, I sent a plane… Why didn’t you save yourself?”

Moral: Learn to recognise what you’re looking for when it/he comes along. Even though it may not be wrapped in the shining armour you’ve fantasised about.’

Since then Jake and I have both said we can’t wait to see each other in Paris at the weekend. More importantly, we’ve each thanked Shannon for uncrossing our wires.
